How to correctly measure your foot?

Place a sheet of paper on a flat hard surface and stand on it. Stand straight and relax your toes
Hold the pen vertically and trace the outline of your entire foot
Measuring length: mark the longest part of your foot from the center of the heel to the tip of the longest toe. Connect the points and measure the foot length
Measuring width: mark the widest part of your foot. Connect the marks and measure the foot width. Write down the measured values
Add approx. 0.5 cm to your measured length and you have your size

I don't understand the rave reviews: the leather is extremely stiff, making the shoes very uncomfortable. I wore them at home for two days, with no improvement whatsoever - the sole will be completely worn out long before the shoes are broken in. Furthermore, I have fairly wide feet, but these shoes are far too wide, making them look goofy.

FWIW I've been wearing barefoot/minimalist shoes for 10+ years, we have about a dozen pair of such shoes in our family (various brands / shapes / ...) so I think I have a good point of comparison. These were my first BeLenka shoes, and probably the last.
